– Many butterflies have patterns which can only be seen in a special light called “ultraviolet” light
A bright light will attract dozens of moths at night. A more exciting way to see them is to paint tree trunks or fences posts with a mixture of treacle and beer. Moths will visit this mixture after dark to feed on the smelly, sugary liquid. You can watch them feeding if you cover the end of the torch with red cellophane or plastic. Moths can’t see red light; this let’s you watch them without scaring them away.
Sdiao reminded me that they saw many moths during the camping at night.
